Abstract
This text offers a literature review, with a particular focus on Middle Eastern studies, of the food studies field, along with the various theoretical and documentary approaches employed by researchers. The review traces the discipline’s evolution, from structural analyses and early social history to the political economy of food. The main objective is to analyze emerging directions within the field in order to demonstrate how food can be a very valuable resource to enhance our understanding of the social, cultural and economic spheres.
