Este artículo examina la estrategia ilustrada europea a través de la cual filósofos como Malebranche, Leibniz, Montesquieu y Voltaire se apropiaron de determinados conceptos chinos, y articularon sus respectivos pensamientos como respuesta a la crisis teológica que vivía Europa. Intenta mostrar si esta influencia fue formativa (sustancialmente importante a priori) o corroborativa (relevante a posteriori).
