El artículo examina las narrativas pe riodísticas sobre América Latina reproducidas en el golfo Arábigo por el diario en lengua inglesa Kuwait Times durante el periodo posindepen dencia. Se plantea que, al incorporar la realidad latinoamericana en otro extremo del sur global, el periódico kuwaití, aun sometido a las fuentes metropolitanas, construye un relato arabista usando las noticias sobre el territorio como un espejo de su propia realidad. Esto se demuestra con el énfasis en las noticias de América Latina en el marco de no alineamiento y las dicotomías políticas de la Guerra Fría. Se concluye que los conflictos latinoamerica nos acerca del territorio estimulan el imaginario cultural y político en Kuwait. La importancia de este análisis apunta hacia un nuevo campo de investigación que consiste en potenciar fuentes de archivo para elucidar una conciencia acerca de los desafíos poscoloniales del tercer mundo.
