En algunas naciones de África oriental como Tanzania y Uganda existen discursos sobre la muerte que se expresan a través de formas artísticas, tales como las canciones populares y las historias transmitidas oralmente. Lo mismo ocurre en algunas zonas de México. Las narrativas musicales y folclóricas de estas regiones en conjunto y relacionadas entre sí, pueden mostrarnos lecciones valiosas acerca de la manera en que sus habitantes desarrollan estrategias para comprender su lugar en el universo, así como para aceptar su eventual desaparición del mundo físico y social que les es conocido.
